Friday, October 17, 2008 @ 9:38 PM * The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax!
Nothing in particular to write, especially during exam season. But, I did watch an amusing show today, so I thought I might post about it.Before you read on, no, it's not an anime. I would never post entirely about one anime in a post, since I know 80% of my usual readers have no interest at all in animes. Wait, I just remembered, 100% of you. Today's show I'm gonna talk about is called 'The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax', some english movie from year 1999. I've just noticed that the ratings in the internet aren't high at all, 5.5/10. But I thought it deserved better ratings. =)
Firstly, I didn't watch the whole thing. I missed out some early parts of the show. But this is the brief information I got from the information thingie in Astro. The story talks about an old virgin, Mrs. Pollifax joining the CIA. She's literally oooold. That makes the show more interesting, in fact. She's got herself into this mission, which is to take some weird microchip thingie to the head of the CIA. But she was caught, and I missed that part. But when I started watching the show, Mrs. Pollifax was already caught by this man. He interrogated her, and she made funny answers, which is hard for me to describe. But just to tell you, the guy who caught her wanted the microchip from her, in which she has it but she didn't know about it.
She played dumb, acting as if she was merely a normal citizen being right in the scene on a bad time. A typical grandmother, who nags about how honored she is to be an American, and such. Lol. You'll find it amusing, I'm sure, especially from this grandma. =P So, she was locked up with this man, who was supposed to be from the CIA as well. Not really sure what happened before, like I said. So, we'll skip that. Anyways, Mrs. Pollifax inspired me in quite a number of aspects. She's old, but she's determined. She's skilled, observant, smart, tricky, anything you would expect from a normal international spy. But, to have all those aspects in a old grandmother, is not something you see in TV everyday.
For example, she wrote this long list of items and commanded the people who lock her up to get them. Since they required information from Mrs. Pollifax and Jack [the other locked up CIA man], they had to obey. But they didn't know how those herbs she requested looked like. So, under fierce inspection, she was eyed when they let her out to pick the herbs. While picking, she's like complaining about how the men had good and rare herbs in their garden, but they had not talents at all in taking care of them. Oh, you'll be able to see how funny that scene is. She was being eyed by murderers, yet she seemed like she's shopping. And she even complains about them, which is hilarious.
When she got back to the cell, she told Jack about the stuffs she observed. She said things like the plants she saw are all mountain plants. And so Jack suspected that they were at North America. But Mrs. Pollifax said again that there was a nightingale, which exists commonly around Europe. The point is, I'm not teaching Geography or anything, but how observant this old woman is. =D She's really entertaining in a lot of ways.
Then, the two were being brought to a hospital nearby, since Jack was injured from the beginning, and he acted as if he was dying. So the bad guys had to send him for treatment, while Mrs. Pollifax proved useless to them, they were about to dump her somewhere else. So, on their way in the van, Mrs. Pollifax, like the three spy agents from the cartoon series, Totally Spies, did a bunch of things normally spies would do to escape. I love her act. =) In the end, they managed to escape to a nearby US Embassy for help.
Mrs. Pollifax, failed her first mission on the microchip, was being 'fired' then, by the CIA. So, they bought her a ticket home, but Jack insisted she stay. Anyways, skipping that part, she got her luggage packed, and was about to enter the taxi, when she saw this girl called Alice Freedman. Okay, long story short, Alice is a criminal who is selling nuclear bombs. She ran in and tried to tell the CIA boss about this, but he rejected to listen. So, she followed Alice on her own. Brave, and pretty smart at tailing. You'll get what I mean when you watch the show.
So, she tailed Alice to this hotel around Geneva. [ignore that] She acted as if she was a customer as well, and booked for rooms in the hotel for herself too. She stayed there for one night, observing every moves Alice is making. She's brave in every way, but she's still the funny, nagging grandmother. xD I'll stop here, then.
In the end, she caught Alice, just as the army rushed in and did the same. She's really cool, during the part when Alice was caught. I love that old granny. x) I usually hate kids in movies, especially those kids where they play main roles, but I love granny roles as main. They are all just so amusing and hilarious, unlike all grannies. =P
